OptiScaler is a free, open-source mod that changes which upscaler a PC game uses. It sits between the game and its upscaler: the game asks for DLSS, FSR or XeSS, and OptiScaler hands the work to the backend you choose in its in-game overlay. It can also manage frame generation and adds an experimental frame-generation option for some DirectX 12 games.
When to use OptiScaler
- A single-player game that offers only DLSS, on an AMD or Intel graphics card that cannot run DLSS. OptiScaler can feed that game’s DLSS input to FSR or XeSS.
- Trying a newer FSR or XeSS version than the game shipped with.
- Fine-tuning sharpening, scaling ratios and DLSS presets in supported games.
When not to use it
- In online games. The README warns: “Do not use this mod with online games. It may trigger anti-cheat software and cause bans!”
- In games with no upscaler. It needs a game that already supports DLSS 2 or later, FSR 2 or later, or XeSS.
- If you want an installer app. The team says it has no official manager app. Third-party “managers” are not theirs.
Requirements
A Windows game using DirectX 11, DirectX 12 or Vulkan with a supported upscaler. Available upscalers depend on the API and your GPU. The README notes that FSR 4 is officially limited to RDNA 4 and RDNA 3 desktop cards. You need a tool that opens .7z archives. Extract the files next to the game’s main executable and run setup_windows.bat.
Verify your download
The team says it has no official website. The only legitimate sources are the GitHub repository, its Discord server and Nitec’s Nexus Mods page. OptiScaler is free, and the team says any payment request is a scam. Compare the archive’s SHA-256 hash below with Get-FileHash. Is there an official OptiScaler website?
No. The team states it does not have one and has been told about fake sites presenting themselves as the OptiScaler team.
Can OptiScaler get me banned?
In online games, yes. The developers warn it may trigger anti-cheat software and cause bans.
How do I remove it?
Run the Remove_OptiScaler.bat that the setup script created in the game folder, or delete the renamed DLL, OptiScaler.ini and the OptiScaler folders by hand, then restore any backed-up game files.
Is it the same as DLSS Swapper?
No. DLSS Swapper changes the version of an upscaler a game ships. OptiScaler changes which upscaler it uses.
