Handheld Companion is a free Windows app for PC gaming handhelds, developed on GitHub by Valkirie and contributors. It adds gyro aiming, Xbox 360 or DualShock 4 controller emulation, button remapping, per-game profiles and a Quicktools overlay for TDP, refresh rate, resolution and brightness. Version 1.2.1.3 was released on September 22, 2026.
When to use Handheld Companion
- You run Windows on a supported handheld and want gyro controls or remapping outside Steam.
- You want quick TDP and display controls in one overlay.
When not to use it
- Alongside Armoury Crate and Steam Input all remapping at once. The project says running all three “is asking for problems,” such as double inputs.

- For commercial redistribution. It is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
Install and verify
Download the installer from the GitHub releases page, compare its SHA-256 with the value below, and run it as administrator. When we checked on September 26, 2026, a link on the project wiki’s Installation page pointed to an unrelated website, so type the GitHub address yourself. Is Handheld Companion free?
Yes. Public releases on GitHub are free. Patreon supporters get builds at least two weeks early.
Does it work with Armoury Crate?
Yes. The project says Armoury Crate keeps priority on the special buttons and recommends setting its controller mode to Gamepad.
