Microsoft Edge is Microsoft’s web browser, built on the Chromium engine. It is free and available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. Signing in with a Microsoft account syncs passwords, favourites and history across devices; you can also use it without signing in.
Who it suits
Edge suits people who work inside Microsoft 365 or use a work or school account, because it integrates with those services and with Microsoft’s Copilot features. Organisations use it because Microsoft publishes management policies and business configuration for it.
Get the official version
- Windows, Mac and Linux: use the Microsoft Edge download page. It has separate buttons for Windows, macOS and Linux (.deb).
- Android: Google Play.
- iPhone and iPad: only through the App Store.
- Preview builds: Microsoft offers Insider channels, continuously updated preview builds, linked from the same download page.
Downloading Edge means accepting the Microsoft Edge Software License Terms, as the download page states.
Price and account
Edge is free with no subscription. A Microsoft account is optional and only needed for sync. The Google Play listing mentions in-app purchases.

Microsoft states that Edge does not support Chromebooks.
Safety notes
Edge updates itself. Treat any website that says your browser is outdated and pushes a download as suspicious; let the browser’s own updater handle it instead. On phones, install only from Google Play or the App Store.
Questions
Will Edge keep updating on Windows 10?
Microsoft says Edge and the WebView2 Runtime will keep receiving updates on Windows 10 22H2 until at least October 2028, and that the Extended Security Updates programme is not required for that.
Does Edge run on Windows 7 or 8.1?
No. Support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 ended with Edge version 109.
Can I install Edge with winget?
Yes: winget install Microsoft.Edge installs the Enterprise MSI from Microsoft’s download server.
