DLSS Swapper is a free, open-source Windows app that downloads, manages and swaps the DLSS, FSR and XeSS DLL files inside your games. That lets you move a game to a newer or older version of its upscaler without waiting for the developer to patch it. It finds games from Steam, GOG, Epic Games, Ubisoft Connect, the Xbox app and Battle.net, and you can add others by hand.
When to use DLSS Swapper
- A single-player game ships an old DLSS, FSR or XeSS version and you want to try a newer one.
- A newer DLL causes problems and you want to go back to an earlier version.
- You want one place to see which upscaler version each installed game uses.
When not to use it
- In online games with anti-cheat. Asked whether swapping is safe in online games, the developer answered: “No it is not safe. Changing a file to one the system does not expect may be flagged by anti-cheat and get you banned.”
- To add DLSS to a game that lacks it. The README says it cannot.
- With DLLs from strangers. In July 2026 the developer warned that DLLs posted in the project’s GitHub repositories with comments like “this fixed it for me” are likely malware. Use only the files the app offers.
Requirements
Windows 10 64-bit, version 20H1 (build 19041) or later. The README lists “Any” GPU. Which upscaler a game can actually use still depends on your graphics card.
Verify your download
The README says GitHub releases and winget (winget install --id=beeradmoore.dlss-swapper -e) are the only official sources, and warns about malicious sites claiming to be DLSS Swapper. The installer is signed by SignPath Foundation. Compare the SHA-256 hash below with Get-FileHash. When we checked, winget still offered 1.2.5.0, so GitHub had the newer build. Was DLSS Swapper hacked in 2026?
No. Tom’s Hardware and TechSpot reported third parties posting suspicious DLLs in the project’s GitHub repositories. Neither reported a compromised release.
How do I undo a swap?
Open the game in DLSS Swapper, go to the DLL version menu and click Reset. The app keeps a backup of the original file in the game folder. If Reset is missing, use your launcher’s verify-files option.
Does it improve performance?
Not guaranteed. The README says a swap may fix some issues and, in other cases, stop a game from launching until you restore the original DLL.
