DLSS Swapper has an identifiable official source and a verifiable installer; those checks do not make every DLL swap safe. Separate the app you download, the library a game will load, and the game’s modification rules. A valid installer signature does not prove that a later DLL is trustworthy, and a trusted library does not grant anti-cheat permission.
Three checks that answer different questions

Where the official app comes from
The project README identifies the beeradmoore GitHub repository and winget as the official installation routes, and warns about unaffiliated sites claiming the name. Start at that repository and follow its release link. Search advertisements, issue attachments and a familiar-looking download button are not an equivalent source chain.
The latest non-prerelease record is v1.2.6.1, published 26 August 2026. The Microsoft winget manifest directory currently lists 1.2.5.0 as its newest version. This is a dated source observation, not a claim that your local package-manager cache was refreshed or that a command was executed.
The tool is free and its code is GPL-3.0. That license does not relicense proprietary game libraries, and open source does not constitute a complete security audit. Its README credits SignPath code signing; below we record the actual signature observed for one specific file.
The exact installer inspected on 5 October 2026
We downloaded DLSS.Swapper-1.2.6.1-installer.exe from the release asset URL in the publisher’s API record. Its measured length was 114,898,480 bytes, and its measured SHA-256 matched the published digest:

Windows Get-AuthenticodeSignature returned Valid, signature type Authenticode, and signer SignPath Foundation. These findings apply to that exact downloaded installer. It was not run or installed; no antivirus verdict, game launch, swapped-library check or security audit was performed.
GitHub also lists DLSS.Swapper-1.2.6.1-portable.zip, 119,973,583 bytes, with digest 78cf171ae54b0a04. These ZIP values are publisher metadata, not a measured complete ZIP or a signature observation. A partial download cannot establish a complete-file match. The installer’s signature says nothing about every file in another package.
Verify your own copy without launching it
- Follow the source chain: repository, exact release, exact asset. Record the version, platform and filename; avoid an attachment posted by another user.
- Measure the bytes: in PowerShell, run
Get-FileHash -LiteralPath '.\DLSS.Swapper-1.2.6.1-installer.exe' -Algorithm SHA256. Compare with the digest for that filename and release, not a similarly named package. - Inspect the signature: run
Get-AuthenticodeSignature -LiteralPath '.\DLSS.Swapper-1.2.6.1-installer.exe'. Check the actual status and signer. A missing or invalid result calls for investigation; do not invent a successful validation from the presence of a certificate tab. - Keep the limit clear: a hash proves matching bytes against a reference you trust. A valid signature verifies a signer for those bytes. Neither proves malware-free behavior or online permission.

Untrusted DLL uploads are a different source
A DLL can execute when a game loads it. Treat a suggested fix in a GitHub issue, Discord message or forum as third-party code until its provenance is established. A real project’s issue tracker is a discussion area, not automatic approval of every attached file. Avoid speculative accusations against unnamed sites or files that this review has not analyzed.
The project README’s impersonation warning is publisher guidance, not our malware analysis of a particular domain. Earlier versions of this article repeated July 2026 reporting about suspicious user-submitted DLLs. That reporting alone does not establish a complete audit of official releases, or prove that no official build has ever been compromised. This review makes neither a blanket compromise denial nor an antivirus verdict.
Use the app’s documented library workflow and retain traceable source/version information, while recognizing that this review did not audit its manifest validation implementation or certify every library it can import. “Offered by the app” is not a universal guarantee for every configuration, import and future update.
Anti-cheat permission comes from the game publisher
In the repository owner’s online-games reply, the developer warns that unexpected file changes can be flagged by anti-cheat and lead to bans. Restoring a file later is not proof that a prior modification could not have been recorded.
Check the exact game’s current policy before changing its files. Do not disable anti-cheat, change security software or use a different injector to bypass restrictions. Where a supported official NVIDIA App override meets the goal, evaluate that documented workflow separately; it is not permission for arbitrary DLL replacements. Compatibility and rollback still need their own checks
The README lists Windows 10 64-bit 20H1/build19041 as its minimum and any GPU for the tool. That does not restore Windows 10 full support, add DLSS to a game without integration, or unlock RTX-specific features on another GPU. It also expressly declines performance, artifact and crash-free guarantees.
Before a permitted experiment, record the game patch, driver, original DLL and current settings. Make a single change and compare a repeatable scene. The developer’s Reset explanation says the app leaves a backup in the game folder and that a missing Reset button can mean the original was restored or the backup removed.
If recovery is needed, restore a library appropriate to the current game build. A game update can make an older backup inappropriate. Follow the launcher’s file-verification procedure if necessary, preserving relevant mod configuration because verification can remove modifications. We did not perform a swap, restoration or launcher-repair test.
The DLSS Swapper catalogue entry supplies the official route and package details; the source-verification checklist helps avoid impersonation. Use provenance evidence, game permission and a real recovery plan together, rather than treating any one badge as a complete safety verdict.
