G-Helper is a free, open-source control app for ASUS laptops. Its README calls it a lightweight Armoury Crate alternative. It switches performance modes (Silent, Balanced, Turbo), GPU modes (Eco, Standard, Ultimate, Optimized) and screen refresh rate, and sets custom fan curves, power limits, a battery charge limit, keyboard lighting and hotkeys. It is a single portable executable that the README says “doesn’t install anything.”

When to use G-Helper

  • You own an ASUS laptop, such as a ROG Zephyrus, Strix, TUF, ProArt, Vivobook or Zenbook, or an ROG Ally, and find Armoury Crate heavy.
  • You want a battery charge limit and automatic mode switching on battery and AC power.
  • You want ASUS BIOS and driver update checks without Armoury Crate. The README says all update links point to official ASUS downloads.

When not to use it

  • Alongside Armoury Crate services. The requirements page says they adjust the same settings, and links the official Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool.
  • On a desktop. It is built for ASUS laptops. For desktop fan curves, see Fan Control.
  • To take real-time control of fans. The FAQ says it “doesn’t and can’t control your fans”: the firmware does. G-Helper sets a fan profile the firmware then follows.

Requirements

An ASUS laptop running Windows, the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (the requirements page says G-Helper prompts you if it is missing), and the ASUS System Control Interface driver, which the page says you most probably have already.

Questions

Is G-Helper safe?

The official build is open source and code-signed, and the FAQ says it is assembled on GitHub from the public source using GitHub Actions. The same FAQ acknowledges that antivirus tools can occasionally produce false positives.

Can I still use MyASUS?

Yes, but the FAQ says MyASUS may override the battery charge limit. It suggests setting the same limit in both.

Where are its settings stored?

In the %AppData%\GHelper folder, according to the FAQ.
