NVCleanstall is a free, portable tool from TechPowerUp, the makers of GPU-Z. It customizes the NVIDIA GeForce driver package by removing components you don’t need. TechPowerUp says this keeps things tidy and lowers disk usage and memory footprint. Unlike NVIDIA’s own custom installation, it can leave out packages such as Stereo 3D Glasses, USB-C, Notebook Optimizations and Telemetry.
When to use NVCleanstall
- You want to install an NVIDIA driver without components NVIDIA’s installer won’t let you deselect.
- You want to build one customized driver package and install it later on other PCs, including PCs without network access.
- You want to skip the NVIDIA App. NVCleanstall 1.18.0 added full NVIDIA App support.
When not to use it
- To fix a broken driver install. Clean up first with NVIDIA’s “Perform a clean installation” option or DDU.
- If you don’t know what a component does. Read the built-in help text. On laptops, keep NV Platform Controllers, which TechPowerUp says should be used with laptops.
- If you need NVIDIA support. Tweaks that modify the driver’s INF, rebuild its signature or patch NVENC change the package NVIDIA shipped.
- With a driver it can’t handle. The latest version is from April 23, 2025, and earlier NVIDIA driver changes needed NVCleanstall updates. If packaging fails, use NVIDIA’s installer.
Requirements
TechPowerUp’s download page lists Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit. You need an NVIDIA GeForce GPU. NVCleanstall can download driver components itself, or work offline with a driver installer you downloaded earlier.
Verify your download
Download only from TechPowerUp. It publishes MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 checksums for every version. Compare the SHA-256 below with Get-FileHash .\NVCleanstall_1.19.0.exe, and check that the digital signature reads “TechPowerUp LLC.” Our NVCleanstall guide walks through the components and tweaks.
