Immich is a free, open-source, self-hosted photo and video management app. You run the server at home with Docker, and the Android and iOS apps back up your camera roll to it. It is licensed under the GNU AGPL v3. Version 3.2.2 was released on September 15, 2026.

When to use Immich

  • You want your photo library on your own server, with phone backup and a web interface.
  • You have a Linux machine or VM with at least 6 GB of RAM.

When not to use it

  • As your only copy of your photos. Immich says to follow a 3-2-1 backup plan. Its database backups do not include photos or videos.
  • On Windows or macOS if you can avoid it. Immich strongly discourages non-Linux systems. On Windows it points to Docker Desktop or WSL 2.
  • In a Proxmox LXC container. Immich does not recommend Docker in LXC; use a full VM.

Install and verify
