IrfanView is a small, fast image viewer for Windows, written by Irfan Skiljan and available since 1996. Besides viewing, it converts and optimises images, scans and prints, builds slideshows and batch-processes whole folders, and it can play multimedia files. A separate plugin pack adds support for more formats. It suits people who want a lightweight viewer that opens instantly and can batch-rename or batch-convert when needed.
How to get the official version
Version 4.76 was released on 18 September 2026. The home page, irfanview.com, offers three builds:
- 32-bit: runs on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, and all plugins work with it.
- 64-bit: for 64-bit Windows only; it can load very large images (over about 1.3 GB in RAM) and is faster with images of 25 megapixels and more. The 64-bit page offers a self-extracting installer and a zip file.
- ARM64: for Windows on ARM devices, from its own page.
Install plugins that match your IrfanView build: 32-bit plugins with the 32-bit program and 64-bit plugins with the 64-bit one. You can install both versions side by side in different folders. Scanning from the command line works only in the 32-bit version.
The winget package for IrfanView was still at 4.75 when we checked and downloads from a third-party mirror, so we do not list it.

Price and licence
IrfanView is freeware for non-commercial use only, so business use is not covered by the free licence. The support page offers registration (or a donation) of 15 euros by PayPal and other methods, and explains how to buy several licences in one transaction.
What’s new in 4.76
The history page lists options to put the toolbar on the left or right and to draw freehand selections, a wallpaper menu for choosing a monitor, favourite folders in the thumbnails window, changes to the zoom magnifier and support for animated AVIF files.
Questions
Should I choose 32-bit or 64-bit?
Choose 64-bit for very large images on a 64-bit PC. Choose 32-bit if you need every plugin or command-line scanning, since some plugins are not ported to 64-bit.
Is IrfanView available for Mac?
No. irfanview.com offers only Windows builds.
Why does the plugin pack download separately?
The main program stays small. Plugins add extra formats and features, and some were updated after 4.76, so get them from the official plugins page.
