Opera is a free web browser built on Chromium. Its download page highlights three built-in features: a free VPN, an ad blocker and Flow, which moves files and links between your phone and computer. Opera runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
Which Opera do you want?
Opera’s download page lists several browsers, and it is easy to grab the wrong one:
- Opera is the standard browser covered here.
- Opera GX is Opera’s gaming-themed browser, offered separately for Windows.
- Opera Air is a separate browser for Windows and macOS.
- Opera Mini is a lightweight mobile browser.

- Mac: the same page, including an offline package.
- Linux: .deb and .rpm packages from opera.com, or the Snap listed on the same page.
- Android: Google Play. Opera also offers its own APK download from opera.com.

Price and the VPN
The browser and its basic VPN are free. Opera also sells VPN Pro as a separate paid product. Google Play labels the Android app with “Contains ads” and “In-app purchases”. No account is required to browse.
