Slack is a messaging app for work. Conversations are organised into channels, and the app adds direct messages, voice and video huddles, file sharing and connections to other tools. The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux and the mobile apps for Android and iOS all connect to the same workspaces. The current Windows version on slack.com is 4.52.162.

Teams and communities that want organised group chat. You need to be invited to a workspace or create one before the app is useful.

Price and free plan limits
The app is free to install; what you can do depends on the workspace’s plan. Slack’s help centre lists these Free plan limits:
- Access to 90 days of message and file history.
- Messages and files older than one year are permanently deleted.
- Up to 10 integrations with other apps.
Paid plans remove those limits. The plan belongs to the workspace, so what you see depends on the workspace you join.

Does the Slack desktop app work on Windows 10?
Slack’s requirements page lists Windows 11 version 23H2 or above for Windows PCs, and Windows Server 2016. Windows 10 is not on the list.
What is the “Legacy” Windows download?
The Windows page offers the MSIX package by default and a separate legacy installer. Both come from slack.com.
Can I install Slack with winget?
