Unraid OS is a paid storage and home-server operating system from Lime Technology. Its main array keeps a separate file system on each data disk and protects them with one or two parity drives, so you can mix drive sizes and add disks one at a time. It also supports ZFS and Btrfs pools, Docker apps and virtual machines. Version 7.3.2 was released on July 8, 2026.
Price and trial
Unraid is not free. Its pricing page lists perpetual licenses at $49 (Starter, 6 storage devices, 1 year of updates), $109 (Unleashed, unlimited devices, 1 year of updates) and $249 (Lifetime, unlimited devices, lifetime updates). Starter and Unleashed can add a year of updates for an optional $36. The free trial lasts 30 days with no credit card, and can be extended twice by 15 days. When it ends, the array stops until you buy a license. Unraid says all sales are final.
When to use Unraid
- You have drives of different sizes and want to use them all in one protected array.
- You want to grow storage one disk at a time.
When not to use it

- From any site offering an “unlocked” copy. Unraid is licensed per server, tied to your boot device. Get it only from unraid.net or Unraid’s GitHub.
Verify your download
Most users should use the USB Creator from unraid.net. For the Installer, compare the SHA-256 below with Get-FileHash, shasum -a 256 or sha256sum, or check the MD5 file Unraid publishes next to each asset.
