Bambu Studio is Bambu Lab’s free, open-source slicer. It prepares 3D models for printing and sends jobs to Bambu Lab printers over the network. It is based on PrusaSlicer and licensed under AGPL-3.0. Its main features include project-based 3MF workflows with multiple plates, tree and hybrid supports, multi-material painting and remote control and monitoring of Bambu printers.
When to use Bambu Studio
- You own a Bambu Lab printer and want the presets and features Bambu ships with its hardware.
- You want automatic Flow Dynamics calibration. Bambu’s wiki lists it for the H2D, X1 and A1 series. P1 printers support manual calibration.
- You print in several colors with an AMS.
- You want to print remotely, watch the camera or update firmware from your desktop.
When not to use it
- If you mainly run other brands. Bambu Studio supports third-party printers, but Bambu’s wiki calls its third-party calibration page “intended for advanced users, not beginners.” OrcaSlicer is built for mixed fleets. See OrcaSlicer vs Bambu Studio.
- If you want an entirely open-source setup with network printing. The Bambu network plugin needed for remote control is based on non-free libraries. Without it, you can still slice and print from the SD card.
- If you don’t want prints to pass through the cloud. Switch the printer to LAN-only mode. Bambu says no print information or files go to the cloud in that mode.
Requirements
Bambu Lab lists Windows 10 (64-bit) or later and macOS 10.15 or later. For Linux, Bambu publishes AppImages for Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 on GitHub, and its README points to a Flathub version maintained by a community member. Binding a printer for cloud printing requires a Bambu Lab account. LAN-only mode uses the printer’s access code instead.

Bambu Lab’s download page links directly to the files on github.com/bambulab/BambuStudio/releases, so the hashes below apply to both. Compare with Get-FileHash on Windows, shasum -a 256 on macOS or sha256sum on Linux. Bambu also offers a public beta (02.08.04.57, September 22, 2026) on the same page. Use the stable release unless you want to test new features.

Do I need a Bambu Lab account?
Only to bind a printer for cloud printing. LAN-only mode and SD card printing work without one.
Can Bambu Studio work without the network plugin?
Yes. Bambu says that after installing Bambu Studio without the plugin, you can print from the SD card once slicing is complete.
