Choose by exact printer profile and connection

Best Free Slicer for Your 3D Printer Brand (Official Links Only)

By Updated Checked against official sources on 3 Oct 2026

Editorial review: 3 October 2026 UTC. Official sources and release records checked; application execution and printer testing were not performed.

Start with the printer maker’s slicer when it has a profile for your exact model. Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Creality Print, ElegooSlicer and Anycubic Slicer Next are available without a slicer purchase. For a mixed fleet, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer or Cura may give you a more consistent workflow. The deciding checks are the printer profile, nozzle, firmware and connection method, rather than the logo on the download page.

This guide covers filament/FDM printing. Resin exposure settings and resin printer file formats need a different workflow; Anycubic Photon Workshop and Creality HALOT BOX are outside this comparison. There is no measured print-quality ranking here.

Official slicers by printer brand

Printer brand Official starting point Release observed on 3 October Check before switching
Bambu Lab Bambu Studio GitHub stable v02.08.02.61, 21 August 2026 Exact printer and AMS profile; firmware and network authorization. Slicing support does not establish remote-control support.
Prusa PrusaSlicer 2.9.6, 25 June 2026, on the website and GitHub stable channel Choose the printer, nozzle and filament presets. Desktop slicing needs no account; cloud services have separate requirements.
Creality Creality Print Website V7.3.0.6149, 28 September 2026; GitHub latest v7.2.1, 4 August 2026 The channels differ. Use the version and OS listed beside the file you choose; do not label the older GitHub record as the newest website build.
ELEGOO ELEGOO Download Center and ElegooSlicer v1.5.3.5 GitHub stable v1.5.3.5, 3 September 2026 Use the profile and instructions for the actual FDM printer. ELEGOO’s packaged Cura is a separate distribution; its version is not necessarily UltiMaker Cura’s current version.
Anycubic Anycubic Slicer Next A version number was not visible in the retrieved download page Anycubic lists Windows 10 1607+, macOS 11.3+ and Ubuntu 24.04 only. Select Intel or Arm Mac explicitly. Its public repository has no latest-release API record in this check.

These are source observations, not certification of each binary. We could read Bambu’s release repository and README, but direct retrieval of its vendor download page returned HTTP 403. The download button on our Bambu Studio catalogue therefore targets the exact official GitHub release.

When a cross-brand slicer is useful

OrcaSlicer 2.4.2 provides profiles for several brands and documented calibration tools. It is a reasonable option for a mixed fleet when the required printer profile and connection are supported. Its built-in slicing does not need the optional Bambu network plugin; Bambu device controls use a separate, non-free networking component. Cloud features can require accounts. A blanket no-account claim would obscure that difference.

PrusaSlicer 2.9.6 is another cross-brand option: its README describes support for multiple manufacturers and Prusa advertises local desktop slicing without an account. Choose the desktop package rather than assuming its cloud-based EasyPrint service has the same workflow.

UltiMaker Cura 5.13.0 is the stable release observed in its official GitHub repository. Its README describes community-managed printer profiles and hundreds of settings. The vendor product page returned HTTP 403 in this review, so we do not repeat an unverified current marketing feature count or system-requirement matrix.

A profile check that prevents the wrong choice

  1. Record the machine. Write down its exact model, firmware version, nozzle diameter and installed accessories. A similarly named printer can have a different bed size, extruder or start procedure.
  2. Find the matching profile. Confirm the build volume, nozzle, bed type and supported filament. If the profile is absent, use the vendor’s documented setup or a profile you can validate; selecting a nearby model is not evidence of compatibility.
  3. Choose the connection. Exporting a file to removable storage, sending it over a local network and using cloud printing are separate capabilities. Check the printer manual’s accepted file format and network/authorization requirements.
  4. Keep a baseline project. Save your old project and presets. In the candidate slicer, inspect the imported profile, temperatures, supports, bed selection and preview before sending a print. A 3MF project may carry old settings rather than the defaults you expected.
  5. Change one variable at a time. Keep material, nozzle and model consistent when comparing. Record your own result instead of assuming a fork of the same code produces identical settings or output.

Anycubic Slicer Next and ElegooSlicer identify OrcaSlicer as their base; Bambu Studio identifies PrusaSlicer as its base. Shared ancestry does not establish identical profiles, firmware access, account features or project compatibility. Our OrcaSlicer versus Bambu Studio guide explains the calibration and authorization distinctions in more detail.

Free software and licence limits

The reviewed OrcaSlicer, Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, ElegooSlicer and Anycubic Slicer Next READMEs identify AGPL-3.0 licensing. You can obtain the slicers without a software purchase, but hardware, materials and optional services are separate costs. Bambu’s networking plugin uses non-free libraries. An open-source slicer label does not make every bundled component open source. For redistribution or modified network services, read the actual licence and component notices.

Official does not mean guaranteed safe

Starting at a publisher’s real domain or repository reduces impersonation risk; it does not prove a file is malware-free, bug-free or suitable for your computer. OrcaSlicer’s README warns about orca-slicer[.]com and orcaslicer[.]net; these are project-reported impersonators, not our own malware analysis. Our official OrcaSlicer download guide records one measured Windows file and the limits of that evidence.

Use the exact release asset, compare its hash and inspect its signature where applicable. See our Windows hash and signature guide. Hashes identify file bytes; signatures identify a signer when valid. Neither is a complete safety verdict. Do not disable protections simply to open a download.

Questions readers usually need answered

Must I use the printer maker’s slicer?

No. A compatible alternative can work, but confirm the exact profile and file/connection workflow. Keeping the vendor slicer gives you a useful reference when troubleshooting.

Can I use OrcaSlicer with a Bambu printer?

Supported profiles and slicing are only part of the answer. Check the printer firmware and third-party authorization path before assuming network print initiation or device control will work.

Which software should I choose for a resin printer?

Use the resin workflow documented for the exact printer. The FDM table above does not establish resin support or exposure settings.
