OrcaSlicer 2.4.2 is a free FDM slicer with cross-brand profiles and calibration tools. Use the official release button for the version listed here. Its profiles and network integrations can be useful for a mixed printer fleet, but the exact model, firmware and connection method still determine what works.

Release, licence and platform choices

The official GitHub stable record is v2.4.2, published 7 July 2026. Nightly and prerelease builds are separate channels. The core is AGPL-3.0; the optional Bambu networking plugin uses non-free libraries. Desktop slicing can be used without that plugin, while Bambu network features have separate requirements.

The official download page lists Windows 10+ 64-bit, macOS 10.15+, and Ubuntu 20.04+ or an equivalent distribution, with 4 GB minimum RAM, 8 GB+ recommended and OpenGL 3.3-compatible graphics. Those broad requirements do not make every package compatible with every listed system: the v2.4.2 Linux assets explicitly name Ubuntu 24.04, and x64 and Arm64 Windows files are distinct. Match the actual asset to the host OS and architecture.

One file we actually checked

We downloaded the Windows x64 installer on 2 October 2026 UTC: OrcaSlicer_Windows_Installer_V2.4.2_x64.exe, 137,860,341 bytes (137.86 MB). Its measured SHA-256 matched GitHub’s release digest:

f602f9d646f49bee387d8f342a0193a7ef20756eabb845e19795c5a62b90a58a

Windows Get-AuthenticodeSignature returned NotSigned with no signer certificate for this exact file. On 3 October we rechecked the retained bytes and current release metadata. That is file identification, not a malware verdict. We did not execute the program, install it or print a model. Other platform entries below are publisher-provided size/hash metadata, not files we downloaded and tested.

Sizes use decimal MB (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). Our OrcaSlicer download guide explains the source, package and verification choices; our Windows signature guide explains how to reproduce a hash/signature check.

A useful first-project workflow

  1. Select the exact printer and nozzle, then verify the bed type, filament and process preset. A profile for another model is not evidence of compatibility.
  2. Keep an untouched copy of the original project before importing a 3MF from another slicer. Check its carried-over settings, supports and temperatures in the new environment.
  3. Slice and inspect the preview before exporting or sending a job. File export, local network printing and cloud/device control need separate checks.
  4. Follow the project’s calibration documentation. Its recommended sequence begins with temperature and maximum volumetric speed, followed by pressure advance, flow and retraction. Use the procedure appropriate to your printer and material; these are documented features, not our measured print results.
  5. After calibration, create a new project to exit calibration mode, as the official guide instructs. Save your changed presets under a clear name.

When Bambu Studio may be the better starting point

If you mainly use Bambu hardware and depend on its current device controls, compare the maker’s supported workflow first. Orca’s profile support does not establish access to every firmware command. Printer Developer Mode and a slicer’s advanced/developer controls are different concepts. See OrcaSlicer versus Bambu Studio for calibration, network authorization and migration details.

Official sources and scope

The project README identifies www.orcaslicer.com as its official site and warns about named impersonating domains. We attribute those warnings to the project. We have not scanned the sites or certified the release as safe. This review covers release metadata, licence, package selection and one exact retained file; runtime compatibility, installation, antivirus and printer testing remain unperformed.
