Bazzite is a free, open-source Linux operating system for gaming, built by the Universal Blue community on Fedora Atomic. It comes as a desktop edition and a handheld/HTPC edition that boots straight into Steam Gaming Mode, with separate images for NVIDIA GPUs. The latest stable build when we checked was 44.20260921, published September 21, 2026.
When to use Bazzite
- You want a SteamOS-like Gaming Mode on a handheld Valve doesn’t officially support, such as the ROG Ally.
- You have an NVIDIA GTX 16 or RTX card and want a gaming-focused Linux OS.
- You want to roll back bad updates. Bazzite keeps 90 days of builds.
When not to use it
- With NVIDIA Kepler (most GTX 700) or older cards. Bazzite has no proprietary driver support for them.
- With games on NTFS or exFAT drives. Bazzite says these are unsupported and can lead to data corruption.
- If you need legacy BIOS boot. UEFI is required.
Download and verify
Pick your hardware and GPU at download.bazzite.gg, then compare the ISO with its -CHECKSUM file using Get-FileHash, shasum -a 256 or sha256sum. Bazzite recommends Fedora Media Writer to create the USB drive. See Bazzite vs SteamOS for how it compares with Valve’s OS.
