The short answer: Civil 3D costs US$2,870 per year on the annual plan, or US$360 per month if you pay monthly. It is the second most expensive product in Autodesk’s mainstream line, after Revit.

Civil 3D pricing in 2026
| Plan | Price | Works out at |
|---|---|---|
| Annual subscription | US$240/month, billed annually | US$2,870/year |
| Monthly subscription | US$360/month | US$4,320/year |
| Flex (pay-as-you-go) | From US$99 for 33 tokens | 9 tokens per day of use |
Monthly billing costs about 50% more per year than annual. A three-year term is available and locks the rate. Worth knowing: Civil 3D includes AutoCAD — you are not buying two licences, so compare it against AutoCAD at US$2,095 rather than adding the two together.
Is Flex cheaper for you?
Flex tokens cost US$99 for a minimum pack of 33, which is US$3 per token, and Civil 3D consumes 9 tokens for a day of use — about US$27 per day. Against the US$2,870 annual subscription, Flex wins below roughly 106 days of use a year. That fits reviewers and occasional corridor edits, not a full-time designer.
The legitimate free routes
- Free trial — the complete application for a limited period from Autodesk’s Civil 3D trial page.
- Education access — students and educators at qualifying institutions get Civil 3D free through Autodesk Education, renewed while you remain eligible. Educational licences are for learning, not commercial work.
- Previous releases — an Autodesk subscription has historically covered several recent previous versions, so you are not forced onto the newest release. Confirm current terms in your Autodesk Account.
Softwares Academy does not host or distribute installers, licence keys or activation tools. If a site offers a paid application as an archive with a password, that is not a licence.
Alternatives to Civil 3D
Civil engineering software is a narrower market than general CAD, so the alternatives are fewer but well established.
- Bentley OpenRoads Designer — the main commercial rival, strong on highways and rail, and the standard in many infrastructure authorities.
- Trimble Business Center — favoured where survey data and machine control drive the workflow.
- Civil Site Design — works on top of AutoCAD or BricsCAD, a much cheaper route if you already have a DWG platform.
- BricsCAD Pro with a civil add-on — native DWG with a perpetual-licence option.
- FreeCAD — free and open source, with a growing but still immature civil/BIM workbench. Realistic for study, not for production corridor design.

What we would actually do
- Corridor and grading design as your job: the annual subscription, and price the three-year term.
- You mainly need AutoCAD with occasional civil work: compare against plain AutoCAD plus a cheaper civil add-on before committing.
- Occasional review or markup: Flex — cheaper below about 106 days a year.
- Student or educator: Autodesk Education access, free while eligible.
