Adobe currently lists 26 different plans, and the most common mistake is buying a single-app subscription when a bundle costs less and gives you more. This guide explains how the tiers actually work so you can pick the right one — whichever country you are buying from.
Adobe prices in your local currency and the amount changes by country, so this guide deliberately avoids quoting one country’s figure as if it were universal. The ratios below hold everywhere; check the exact number for your region on Adobe’s plans page.
The tiers, from smallest to largest

The two rules that save the most money
Rule one: if you want Photoshop, price the Photography plan first. This is the single most expensive mistake people make with Adobe. The Photography plan is cheaper than a standalone Photoshop subscription in every region we have checked, and it includes Photoshop, Lightroom, Lightroom Classic and 1TB of storage. Buying Photoshop on its own costs more and gives you less. There is no catch — it is simply a legacy price point Adobe has kept.
Rule two: at three apps, switch to the full suite. A single app costs roughly a third of Creative Cloud Pro. So two single apps is still cheaper than the suite, but the moment you need a third — say Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere — the 20+ app plan costs about the same or less, and you get everything else as well.
Students and teachers
Adobe runs a separate Students & Teachers tier that is heavily discounted against the standard individual price, and it covers the full Creative Cloud suite rather than a cut-down version. You verify your academic status once. If you are enrolled or teaching, this is the tier to look at before anything else — it is on the same plans page under its own tab, alongside Business and Schools & Universities.
The legitimate free routes
- Free trials — the full applications for a limited period, from Adobe’s product catalog. These are complete apps, not feature-limited demos.
- Adobe Express has a free tier that covers a surprising amount of social and marketing design work with no subscription at all.
- Acrobat Reader remains free for viewing, printing and commenting on PDFs — you only need Acrobat Pro to create and edit them.
- 14-day refund window — Adobe lets you cancel within 14 days of purchase for a full refund, which makes trying a paid tier low risk.
